Hope and Change clashes with Airline Security

Can you imagine Franklin Delano Roosevelt saying to Adolf Hitler “we will extend our hand if you unclench your fist” – can you? What is it about liberals that make them believe that if we are nice to terrorists they will like us? Liberals are betting all of our collective security on that fantasy and the result is playing out in the news. It appears that grading the President is all in vogue lately as we close on the old year. How about this grade?

Terrorists 2, Obama 0

On September 11, 2001 fanatical Islamic beasts took down two buildings, America lead by President George W. Bush responded by taking down two countries. That ain’t “hope and change” that’s the American way of war. Those vicious bastards sucker-punched us and then spent the next seven years wondering what happened to their world. They are off defense now and have gleefully shifted to offense. God help us.

The New Year offers the prospect of returning the House of Representatives and the Senate to adult leadership. I can’t wait for November 2010.

The Cowboy Way

Listening to stories all day of the panty-bomber, I began to really, really miss George W. Bush. If I had to choose between the cowboy response and the gay response, I would choose the cowboy way every time. Say what you will about President Bush, but those stuck-in-the-tenth-century Al Qaeda cretins would have been laying low right now if W were still in charge. They are probably rolling in their caves laughing at the response from the Obama administration. To call it limp-wristed is certainly an understatement. Instead of making airline passengers miserable, why don’t we kill more terrorists?

What I learned this morning

I watched the Senate vote on the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act this morning and with a sinking feeling watched my country get sold down the river. I learned a few painful lessons this morning:

There is no such thing as a “conservative” or “moderate” democrat – when push came to shove, all of the “Ds” along with the Socialist and the “Independent” ran right off the cliff for the worst piece of legislation in the history of the Republic.

It has never been about healthcare – it has always been about power. There is no way for a reasonable person to justify this wretched healthcare bill unless you see it through the prism of a pure and simple power grab.

It really can happen here. For a very long time I thought that we wouldn’t go like lambs to the slaughter like the English, French, Italians, Germans, etc. etc. – but we did.

I’m proud to be a Republican. I only wish that our leaders in the Senate and House would use less polite but more accurate words like “liar” or “thief” or maybe “prostitute” to describe the other party.

“Liberal American” is an oxymoron – no one who believes in the principles that are the foundation of the country would vote to betray the American people with the paradoxically named Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act.

Every democrat has a price. They sold their votes for power and influence, but they sold them just the same. It was bribery and they are no better than simple felons.

Our government stabbed us right in the back for Christmas. Ho, ho, ho.

Stop this wretched Bill

The Honorable James Webb and Mark Warner,
You can’t imagine my disappointment when I saw the headlines on Monday morning about the reckless actions of the democrat majority in the Senate. The Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act is possibly the worst piece of legislation to be passed by the Senate in my lifetime. That covers a lot of territory given that I was born in 1953. I would like for you to answer some questions for the Virginians you claim to serve:
Didn’t it feel just a little bit larcenous to be voting on such a bill in the middle of the night?
Did you bring home any goodies for Virginians like Senator Nelson did for Nebraskans and Landrieu secured for Louisianans? Or do Virginians just get to pay their tab?
Don’t you feel just a little bit dirty standing there listening to Harry Reid lie to Virginia and the rest of the Nation?
Does it bother you even a little bit that in every major poll Americans oppose what you did by wide margins?
Does it bother you that fewer than 28% of Americans approve of the performance of Congress?
Americans when given the choice between doing nothing and eating the bill that you passed picked “nothing” by an overwhelming majority. Did that occur to you when you cast this vote?
Do you have any idea how embarrassing it is to have Fox News do a special bit on how Virginia’s Senators had violated their election promises?
You still have time to vote against this horribly misguided bill. Virginians demand it.
Sincerely Yours,

In the dark of night – they did it

Senator Harry Reid and the remainder of his criminal conspirators passed The Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act this morning. How can they possibly get away with this? Why would they put their jobs and their legacies in jeopardy? I think I know. The most severe tilt into socialism was taken under cover of the “emergency” of the Great Depression. Then President Franklin Delano Roosevelt followed a program that kept the Nation in depression, yet he was able to layer government program on top of government program while adding government agencies until the Republic of our Founding Fathers was mired in a morass of government. The seeds of our most recent disaster (the housing collapse) were sown by FDR in the creation of the Federal National Mortgage Association known today as Freddie Mac as well as the Security Exchange Commission that failed to stop the collapse it caused. The nearly bankrupt Ponzi scheme ironically named Social Security was passed during that time. The American people must have felt very much like we do today as a flurry of bills were passed one after another that ultimately had no effect on and little relation to the emergency that was the excuse for their passage. The Supreme Court succeeded in reversing some bills, but they were threatened into irrelevance by FDR and his cronies.

What Democrats know is that FDR today is venerated as a hero to everyone who depends solely on a public school education for their history. Further, Americans don’t remember the bad (perhaps they are too charitable?) like President Jimmy Carter who until recently was the worst President in modern history. So I am sure that Senator Ben Nelson and Speaker Nancy Pelosi believe in their heart that Americans will forget their treachery and forgive their deceit in the years to come and revel in the misery of socialism and taxation that will be their legacy.

The other thing that democrats know is that their march to socialism has been inexorable, unstoppable, and irreversible. The entirely disastrous programs trumpeted as the “New Deal” or the “Great Society” have crippled the Nation yet become as addictive to some as crack cocaine. We have been completely incapable of rolling them back even though they are straggling the life out of our Nation and the magic that freedom and capitalism has created. What will become of the rest of the world once this engine of wealth and prosperity grounds to a halt? I don’t know but if democrats succeed in passing “Health Care Reform” we might find out.

I regret this fatalistic diatribe during this season of joy, but sitting here ass-deep in snow, I am reminded that a lot of people still believe in global warming. As George Carlin said – “You know how stupid the average guy is? Now imagine – half of the people are dumber than him.” I also just watched our rookie President tell everyone what a great and historic piece of legislation The Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act is – how “!984” is that?

Federal Screening Required?

I had the misfortune recently to have to go North into the daily Washington, DC Metro area traffic scrum. It was a nightmare I hope not to repeat any time soon. I did run across an interesting character though. I maneuvered to try and record the various stickers and logos from the bumper and tailgate of his car while my wife pummeled me yelling “Stop that and pay attention!” Dear, we all must make sacrifices in the cause of liberty. I was successful in recording many of them and getting a good look at the driver of the dinky gas saving death-trap he was driving.

The occupant was bearded though well groomed, graying probably in his late fifties (certainly old enough to know better). We was wearing a coat and tie sporting the ubiquitous lanyard around his neck holding what looked like a Federal security badge (I not positive about that). He looked angry – as do most liberals, but it could have been caused by the stop and go traffic. Most revealing of his thought process was the back of his car which was covered with far-left bumper stickers:

Carol Moseley-Braun 2004” -The whack-job former Congresswoman who slapped the Federal security cop.
Dennis Kucinich 2010” – the perennial candidate and all around nut-job from Ohio.
Abolish the Death Penalty” I’m with Texas where comic Ron White said they installed an “express lane”
And the footprint of the American Chicken – a big ole peace sign

I might have captured a Karl Marx sticker but it was getting noisier in my SUV with my wife screaming about my driving-while writing and everything. That prevented me from maneuvering behind him to actually get a picture.

I sincerely hope that this guy wasn’t driving to a job in the Defense Department, but arrayed ahead of us were all the various branches of government and the myriad beltway-banditry that support our government. You have to hope that one look at this guy’s bumper would have invalidated him for any job within a democratic form of government. However he doubtless fits in with all the other nut-jobs in a variety of Federal staffs. He might have been one of the countless czars appointed by President Obama. I would have been more comfortable had he not had a badge and been wearing the uniform of a fast-food franchise. It just reminded me how harmful this administration is to our government. It will probably take years to get guys like this back to less harmful employment.

Going Green Kills

Just about the time that you think that you have heard it all, something new and even dumber comes along. File this under the unintended consequences of going green. The Washington Times reported today that in their zeal to save energy and subsequently money, municipalities have converted regular and reliable incandescent light bulbs to LED lights in their traffic signals. While that probably has no discernable effect beyond dimming the presentation of the signal in temperate climates, it has had disastrous results in colder climates. Read about it at LED traffic lights posing hazard in winter. At least one death has been blamed on the fact that snow and ice accumulate on the LED traffic signals where normal light bulbs would have kept the signal warm enough to melt that same snow and ice. Don’t worry though, the same rocket scientists who came up with the rush to change light fixtures (no doubt at great cost to you and I) are researching ways to melt snow and ice on the new signals. How much will that cost us? Any bets that electricity will be involved? Or perhaps some caustic fluid that melts ice?

Caulk is to Obama what the sweater was to Jimmy Carter

During the malaise that was the Jimmy Carter Presidency, the National embarrassment proposed from the Oval office that Americans fight massive increases in energy prices by turning down their thermostats and wearing sweaters. I thought at the time how absurd that plan was as a tonic to a Nation in crisis. Now President Barack Obama has proposed that we all caulk our homes to stimulate the economy and save money. Obama is making it very hard for me to believe that he is on the same planet as the rest of us. Caulk Mr. President?

Why don’t you quit whining about the mess that you fought to take charge of? Hell you spent more than $650 million for the privilege of leading this country. So lead. Ronald Reagan inherited a bigger mess than you did and he rolled up his sleeves and got to work. It was an uphill battle too because the people who caused the mess were in charge of Congress – your fellow democrats. That’s your problem now – Pelosi and Reid don’t have solutions, they are just going to dig you deeper into trouble. Hopefully you will be faced with the same thing that Bill Clinton faced – a hostile Congress in 2010. If you turn pragmatist, the Republicans might just save your presidency. Keep going the way you are and you better get a sweater and join the last failed president, Jimmy Carter. Four years an out. Music to my ears.

The Dog Ate My Homework II

As of 12/11/2009 it is estimated that more than 50 million people in the United States (1 in 6) have been sickened with H1N1 (aka Swine Flu). No one knows how many have been exposed as supplies of the vaccine continue to be delayed. If things continue too much longer, the distribution of vaccine may become irrelevant. A typical government operation. While I do think that government has a part to play in an actual emergency – the government should not create the emergency nor should it exploit the emergency.

Fox News reported today that our benevolent government has said that the distribution of H1N1 flu virus has been slowed by freezing weather. The vaccine is not shipped in climate controlled trucks – the freezing weather would endanger the vaccine were it to be delayed in the sub-freezing weather wracking most of the United States.

It seems too rich that simultaneously Copenhagen is hosting the wacky Global Warming convention. I love the irony of the whole thing. The excuse they give for not being able to handle the first makes the meeting in Copenhagen about the second irrelevant. Is such irony lost on the left? No doubt.

Creating Free-Fire Zones

People continue to be stampeded toward creating free-fire zones for criminals, terrorists, and nut-jobs. The latest was Colorado State University where liberals were even successful in banning Nerf toy guns. Now the students and faculty there are virtually defenseless save for campus police officers. More madness of the loony left.

Has anyone ever heard of an NRA convention being attacked by gunmen? How about those loop-hole filled gun shows? I haven’t and I suspect that as long as we have an NRA and gun shows, we won’t. Everyone except a stone-cold whack job knows better than to charge into one of those venues with murder on his mind – why? Because the folks there might just be armed with a loaded weapon. I tried to make that point to our part-time governor Tim Kaine after the Virginia Tech shooting. Liberals don’t get it.

At Virginia Tech one of the victims was an Air Force ROTC student. Honestly I don’t know how far along he was, but within days of reporting for duty as a Navy ROTC student I had a weapon in my hands. Even though my father had taught me how to shoot, I was trained how to handle a weapon, how to care for it, and how to shoot rifles and pistols. That Air Force ROTC student probably had a similar experience. He might have been a year or two away from flying an ordnance laden jet. My point is that were there more guns at Virginia Tech in the hands of people competent to use them, that madman might have been stopped sooner. It wouldn’t be hard to find competent people willing to carry a gun. There would be former military members, hunters, and law enforcement people all over most campuses. Let them carry guns – concealed or not. Those people understand safe handling of weapons, rules of engagement, and how hit a target.

The “Wild West” was much less wild than most people think largely because nearly everyone was armed. Many of the most notorious outlaws were stopped by bands of citizens. It still happens today. Pick up any issue of American Riflemen and you can read stories taken from the news about brave people who stop crimes because they are armed – exactly the way our Founding Fathers intended.

Leave Karzai alone

I was thinking about poor President Karzai of Afghanistan and I had a picture of that You-Tube video that went viral featuring the weirdo screaming “Leave Brittany Alone!” None of us can even imagine what it must be like for Karzai to be pummeled by his “Ally” while his country is convulsed in violence from every angle. That is unless you have two or three ex-wives.

I find it particularly ironic that the criticism is coming from the left (Democrats, Progressives, Liberals, Socialists, Whack-jobs, whatever). Massachusetts Democrat Representative Jim McGovern was quoted as saying “President Karzai is corrupt and incompetent. He cheated in the most recent election, and I don’t want any more American servicemen or women to risk their lives for his corrupt government.” You know Jim – that’s pretty much how I feel about the government of Barack Obama.

What makes this such a stark case of the pot calling the kettle black is the Democrat National Committee which along with ACORN has become nothing less than a criminal enterprise. Representatives like John Murtha (D-PA), Charlie Rangel (D-NY), Barney Frank (D-MA), Chris Dodd (D-CT) and so many others have turned their positions in the government into nothing short of a money laundering operation with our money. The Trouble Asset Relief Plan (TARP) is being turned into the world’s largest slush fund while the Stimulus (aka Porkulus) plan is funneling cash into useless and unproductive activities all over the country. We have a 58th Democrat Senator because Democrats stole an election in Minnesota. I still can’t believe that I live in a country that has Al Franken in the government – you have to be kidding me.

Hey McGovern – instead of worrying about how corrupt Afghanistan is, why don’t you ask our Attorney General why he won’t step in and prevent the New Black Panthers from intimidating voters? Why don’t you check the distribution of Stimulus money – the last I heard 83% of it was going to districts that voted Democratic. Follow any check that is written by George Soros and I guarantee you that you will find illegal and immoral activity. By the way - does anyone in your party pay their damn taxes Jim?

These left-wing lunatics “Swift-boated” China’s Chiang Kai-shek in the same manner and sentenced tens of millions of Chinese to die and billions more to live out thier lives in a nation-gulag. We can’t let them do it again.

Is Hamid Karzai another George Washington? No – but Barack Obama isn’t John Adams either. In fact it’s more like Pee-Wee Herman goes to Washington. By the way McGovern, I think you are petty and stupid – how do you like that?

He Talks Too Damn Much

I watched the President’s Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech in Oslo, Norway this morning. After a short time I was overwhelmed with the feeling that I get during many of Obama’s speeches – “Is this ever gonna end?” I mean what is wrong with just saying “Thank you?”

Every opportunity to speak isn’t a platform to try and nail some new and deeply profound statement of world shattering significance. Hell, I don’t even count on him telling the truth anymore.

We don’t need our President to be swinging for the bleachers every single time he gets up to read from the teleprompter. We also don’t need him to continue to attack our former President, the CIA, and our military every time he speaks to nitwits from a foreign country. President Obama didn’t have to ban torture in the United States as we have not ever condoned such behavior. All President Obama did was weaken our reputation among nations. As for closing Gitmo – even he has to see how stupid that was by now.

President Obama – I learned once in business that a valid mission statement fits on a T-shirt – so should your message. I can’t wait until February 2013 when the fawning press starts telling everyone what a great ex-president you are.

Lucky Harry

Though many are lashing out about Senator Harry Reid’s incredibly hostile and ridiculous comments from the floor of the Senate, I have to add my two cents worth to the cacophony. His words in part:

"Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all the Republicans can come up with is, 'slow down, stop everything, let's start over.' If you think you've heard these same excuses before, you're right," Reid said Monday. "When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said 'slow down, it's too early, things aren't bad enough.'"

Reid is most fortunate that our children are brought up in a public school system where they learn very little about their Nation’s history. The Great Emancipator President Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican President. It was the Republicans who opposed slavery against a largely Democrat opposition. Indeed even later it was the Democrats who filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964. To break the filibuster and pass the Civil Rights Act President Johnson got the support he needed from Senator Everett Dirksen the Republican minority leader in the Senate. Sounds to me as if the Democrats are the party of wait-a-minute.

Were Americans more in tune with their history and with economics there would be no Democrat Party. One of the great mysteries of my life will be why Blacks in America vote for members of a party who held them in physical bondage until 1865 and then put them in virtual bondage in 1962.

The Wheels Just Keep Coming Off

In the train wreck that is the Global Warming Extremist movement – it does appear that the wheels continue to come off. The Washington Times reports that a CNN/Opinion Research Corp poll indicates that only 45% of adults agree that Global Warming is “a proven fact.” That is good news. (That’s from CNN! The Communist News Network!)

I have always thought that “Environmental Science” is to the greater body of Science what catchup or peanut butter is to fine French Cuisine.

It appears that the Global Warming Wackos would further their own cause more if they stayed at home and planted a tree instead of eating caviar after being delivered to Copenhagen in a fleet of more than 140 private aircraft and being squired around in more than 1200 limousines. Can you say “hypocrite?”

Amidst all this global whining about carbon dioxide levels, Leighton Steward of Speak Out America (http://speakoutforamerica.com/) points out that CO2 is essential to plant life and higher levels are responsible for an increase of as much as 12% in plant growth that is aiding in feeding the planet’s growing population.

Quote of the Day

From the Washington Times. Former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani is quoted as saying:

“The situation in this country is such that constructive criticism is not tolerated.”

I feel your pain – it’s becoming that way here as well.

Government as Terrorist

I realized yesterday just how far my government has gone to terrorize its own citizens. The lady in front of me had a half-pint dispenser bottle of Purell and a large container-dispenser of Clorox wipes in the pew beside her. The first Sunday of the month is Communion at our church and there was a large bottle of Purell on the altar where the Pastor and his assistants would be touching the bread and the canisters holding the little glasses of juice. There were other bottles of Purell strategically placed throughout the building. Early in the scare the church had purchased (no doubt at great cost) several hundred individual self-contained Communion portions – little sealed plastic cups with a wafer on the top of an individual serving of grape juice. The congregation complained so much about having to peel back the little tab to expose the wafer (my wife dropped one so I shared mine with her) and then peel back a second tab to expose the grape juice (thus the stains in the carpet at the altar) – that the church leadership abandoned the idea.

No doubt this irresponsible public terrorizing has been a great boon to Purell, Clorox, and individual Communion portion makers – but it has done little to help the general public. Oh – we are probably all a little bit cleaner and no doubt some avoided the flu who might otherwise have caught it – but at what cost? There is a financial cost in things unnecessarily purchased and a cultural cost of replacing hugging and handshakes with “fist bumping.”

In the governing-by-emergency of President Obama, the swine flu made for perfect theater. Scare the daylights out of everyone in order to do things that would otherwise be impossible and spend, spend, spend. How did the government manage the emergency? Abysmally. No doubt the swine flu is out of the news for that reason – why continue to trumpet a non-existent danger when they are hopelessly behind in the production and delivery of vaccines? While production has a biological problem (the egg production method was unpredictably slow) the distribution methodology selected (individual syringes vice bottled vaccine you fill syringes from) slowed delivery and added untold expense to the process.

Another example of President Obama’s self-licking-ice-cream-cone. Create an emergency then propose yourself as the only solution. Healthcare, Housing, Swine Flu, Jobs, and the list will go on. Democrats are completely unsuited to governing – let’s vote the bums out.

Global Scamming Redux

Last year G. Gordon Liddy announced on his radio show that 2008 was the year that the wheels were going to come off the runaway train called “Global Warming.” He might have been a bit premature, but he was certainly right that the wheels are coming off.

The phony science that has given birth to a movement is on full display with the leaks from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. From the very beginning there were plenty of voices speaking out against this ridiculous proposition. No one was arguing for pollution, but rather they were arguing against destroying our economy to prevent a fantasy.

I have never understood why anyone would trust these folks anyway. Today (12/4/09) the weather reports are all a buzz over whether or not the Washington DC metro area will get snow tomorrow. They don’t know for sure, certainly I would not risk the future of the free world on their predictions. Yet we are going to listen to people who predict with great certainty what the temperature will be in 2110. We are going to bet the World economy on these hysterical ninnies.

For anyone who still has confidence in these modern day Chicken Littles I recommend that you watch “Little Ice Age: The Big Chill” the next time they play it on the History Channel. While I found the effects of that weather on history fascinating that isn’t what I walked away with. Even though it happened during recorded history (1300-1850) these climate geniuses don’t have a clue as to WHY it happened. There are plenty of theories about why there was a mini Ice Age but no consensus on why it started and why it stopped.

In my lifetime we have allowed industries to be crippled and untold billions of dollars to be added to the cost of our modern day conveniences – all to satisfy these chattering knuckleheads screaming about planet destruction. Now these same geniuses are going to gather in Copenhagen next week to plot the continued destruction of our economy and our lives. Madness.

You can preview the insanity at: http://en.cop15.dk/ Go ahead and take a look, your tax dollars probably paid for it. Then bounce over to the Heartland Institute (http://www.globalwarmingheartland.org/) where they have been fighting this foolishness with facts.

The Obama Magic Failed

One of the most stunning results of President Obama’s Afghanistan address at West Point is that he didn’t get much of a reaction from the crowd. My nephew (a veteran himself) pointed out that while standing in front of all those soldiers, Obama didn’t get so much as one “Hoo-Ah.” Honestly, that would be hard to do.

While I think that the cadets of West Point were probably schooled on what might or might not be appropriate, it is highly unlikely that they would have been muzzled. I guarantee you that if Obama had said “I want you to win!” or “Go out there and kick some Taliban butt!” with just a little bit of authority in his voice, those cadets would have come out of their seats faster than Nancy Pelosi did at Obama’s joint address to congress (when he lied about health care).

Suffice to say that the men and women of West Point weren’t buying it – and I didn’t either. It is ironic that we now have the most finely honed, most deadly efficient military that the world has ever known. The only problem is that we don’t have a leader worthy of their loyalty.

Obama and Afghanistan

I think that I know what is wrong with all of what the President says in his speeches, press conferences, and answers to questions. He talks too damn much. I get accused of being verbose all the time – but I can’t hold a candle to President Obama. If he really believed what he was saying, if his teleprompter feeders understood what they were doing, and if there was any chance of us synching up with him – then he could deliver his message in short meaningful phrases. Remember Ronald Reagan? “Here’s my strategy for the Cold War. We win, they lose.”

The other thing that President Obama is consistently guilty of is that he is constantly seeking approval. If I was a psychiatrist I would probably say it was because his no good Commie Muslim father dumped him and ran off. He strung together a sickening list of excuses, revisionist history, and platitudes that are standard Obama fare. “I didn’t do it, it’s not my fault, and the dog ate my homework.” If you are in an army Stryker Brigade or a Marine Infantry battalion and you watched your President dither for 94 days about a subject he should have been totally immersed in, what would your opinion be? Our Excuse-Maker-in-Chief said that no plan that he was presented deployed any troops until 2010 – he said that on 1 December 2009. Doesn’t that make 2010 only 30 days away? It was over 4 months away when he got the plan that his general was asked to provide.

Lastly, even when President Obama does something good – he ruins it. He decided to give his general 75% of the combat power that he asked for and then told our enemies when they can expect relief. At the end of the speech he looked very determined, even presidential as he looked into the camera and said precisely . . . . . . nothing. With the whole world watching to include our enemies, why not say “We will defeat you?” What is wrong with victory?

Congratulations stud – you made a decision. Guess what? This is the big leagues, you can’t dodge decisions anymore.

Wrong Again Scooter

Does anyone remember the constitutional crisis that occurred in Honduras in June? President Manuel Zelaya had decided to violate the constitution of Honduras and become the next dictator in South America. Both the Supreme Court and the Congress of Honduras acted to remove Zelaya from power. A remarkably peaceful action in a region known for violence and volatility. And what did our Obama administration do? They labeled the action a “coup” and took measures against the people and the government of Honduras.

It probably was a disturbing reminder to our new President that he too could be removed from office if he steers the path of Saul Alinsky rather than George Washington.

Did anyone see what the Honduran people did last Sunday? They elected the anti-Zelaya and conservative candidate to power with 56% of the vote.

I wonder if President Obama and Secretary Clinton keep hearing the mantra I keep hearing in the TV commercials for “Land of the Lost” – “Do you ever get tired of being wrong?”

Old Lessons Reapplied

My biggest sense of dread in watching the Obama administration is that we have all been there before – if you are a student of history (or if you are old enough) you have seen this show before. One of the things that bothers me the most about the actions of the left in dealing with Afghanistan is that this is how the left dealt with China.

One of the most infamous and shameful betrayals by an American government was the way we walked away from a billion Chinese and left them to suffer under the hands of Mao Zedong. The formula that the left used then is being used now to give up in Afghanistan. You might recall that Chiang Kai-shek was the Nationalist Warlord and leader of the anti-communist forces. You might not have elected Chiang to be your local Boy Scout Troop leader, but as a Chinese leader in 1940s China, he was as good a leader as we had reason to expect. Certainly Chiang established the track on which Taiwan evolved into a democracy while under Mao mainland China evolved into a communist dictatorship and Mao became the greatest mass murderer in history. It doesn’t take much imagination to envision a democratic China under Chiang had the United States continued to provide him with assistance.

I think that we are seeing the left try the same thing with President Hamid Karzai and Afghanistan. How does a country develop a George Washington? I don’t think that any one really knows. Even King George III marveled at the fact that Washington surrendered power after the Revolution and went home to Virginia. Only the legendary Cincinnatus of Rome is said to have done that before. So we need to stop worrying about Karzai and pummel our enemies while Karzai and the Afghan people get their feet on the ground and determine what kind of democracy they will be.

Leftist in the State Department were able to steer a course for our government that sentenced hundreds of millions of people to communist slavery after World War II. China was the biggest example but it was true in Yugoslavia as well. The Western Democracies nearly lost the very cradle of democracy – Greece – to communists.

Democrats (aka progressives, liberals, or leftists) never want to fight the war that we are engaged in. They never can muster the courage or fortitude to finish a fight – they don’t like “victory.” I suppose that President Obama simply wants to give us all a ribbon for participation and bring everyone home. It’s about time for a test –

If the Grand Old Party has finally issued a statement of principles that it will adhere to – I say, it’s about time. If the “test” is as described below, it is hard to imagine that the Republicans couldn’t find enough candidates and incumbents who could pass such a test. One might even question whether you could get less than a 70% grade on this “test” and still call yourself an American.

It was interesting to note that on a non-scientific poll on AOL 68% of respondents agreed with the concept of having a test while 62% reported that they “passed” the test. That seems to confirm the widely reported claims that twice as many Americans self-identify themselves as “conservative” than “liberal.”

With the inmates running the asylum right now – I can think of no better time for a test. It should get rid of the scandalous outlaws like Dede Scozzafava and Arlen Specter. If this is the “test” – bring it on:

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Republican National Committee identifies ten (10) key public policy positions for the 2010 election cycle, which the Republican National Committee expects its public officials and candidates to support:

(1) We support smaller government, smaller national debt, lower deficits and lower taxes by opposing bills like [President Barack] Obama's "stimulus" bill;

(2) We support market-based health care reform and oppose Obama-style government run healthcare;

(3) We support market-based energy reforms by opposing cap and trade legislation;

(4) We support workers' right to secret ballot by opposing card check;

(5) We support legal immigration and assimilation into American society by opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants;

(6) We support victory in Iraq and Afghanistan by supporting military-recommended troop surges;

(7) We support containment of Iran and North Korea, particularly effective action to eliminate their nuclear weapons threat;

(8) We support retention of the Defense of Marriage Act;

(9) We support protecting the lives of vulnerable persons by opposing health care rationing and denial of health care and government funding of abortion; and

(10) We support the right to keep and bear arms by opposing government restrictions on gun ownership; and be further

RESOLVED, that a candidate who disagrees with three or more of the above stated policy position [sic] of the Republican National Committee, as identified by voting record, public statements and/or signed questionnaire of the candidate, shall not be eligible for financial support by the Republican National Committee.

Can you hear me now?

The Honorable James Webb,

I can’t begin to tell you how disappointed I am in your vote on Saturday night to push forward H. R. 3590 the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. I tried calling your various offices all day on Friday. Your Washington, DC office was unreachable as were the DC based offices o Mark Warner and several other Senators. Even when I got through to your answering machine in Fairfax, talking to a person was impossible and repeated attempts to various voice mail boxes proved that all were full and couldn’t accept messages. I would like to know what American in his right mind would have voted to move this travesty onto the floor of the United State Senate. What business does socialist trash like H.R. 3590 have on the floor of the most eminent democratic body in the world?

If I was going to fix health care the first thing I would do is take some of the Stimulus money that hasn’t been spent and commission a study. The study would determine why five to fifteen million (no one has an exact count) people who currently rate government funded health care don’t enroll and use it. Aren’t you the least bit curious about that? Solve that problem and you cut the number of uninsured by at least one third.

If we could really save tens of billions of dollars by rooting out fraud from Medicare and Medicaid – why wouldn’t you go ahead and do that anyway? You don’t have to boil the health care ocean to save money – carve that piece out and do it now.

Tort reform works. It is the only thing that we know will corral the dramatic rise of costs. It has worked every single place that they have implemented it – why don’t you take that up? On the other hand, government controlled health care has failed every place it has been tried. Check out Massachusetts, Hawaii, Tennessee, Canada, etc. - the list is endless. As Einstein said, “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.”

It is becoming increasingly hard to believe that all you democrats don’t have some sinister motive behind your blind rush over this health care cliff. Stop now.

Sincerely Yours,

STOP H.R. 3590

The Honorable James Webb and Mark Warner,
The majority of Virginians do not support the travesty that is H. R. 3590 the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. We do not want the government in the middle of our health care.
Has it occurred to you and your fellow democrats that the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and all the amendments fit in a pamphlet less than 40 pages long that you can stick in your shirt pocket? How does that compare to this 2,074 page monstrosity that seeks to erase our liberty, tax us to death, and saddle our children and grand children with unmanageable debt?
I hope you were paying attention to the recent Virginia elections. If you support this outrage, we will not forget, and we will defeat you. Don’t try and fix it – it can’t be fixed – bury it. As with everything that this congress has touched, doing nothing would be preferable to what you have come up with.
Sincerely Yours,

Why we need Fox News

I was stuck in the car for quite some time today. The station that I was listening to was the local ABC Talk/News station though it carried the Sean Hannity radio show. Every 30 minutes today Charlie Gibson and the ABC news came on. The principle message about Attorney General Eric Holder’s appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee today was that he had everything under control and America had plenty of experience prosecuting terrorists. We heard a number of articulate audio sound bites from Holder. However when Hannity came on he ran the audio of Senator Lindsey Graham questioning a stuttering and flustered Holder on the consequences and justification for bringing foreign terrorists into the United States for trial. The difference in the message and the impression it left was astounding. Holder can’t justify his actions and the way he arrived at the decision makes no sense at all.

Would we know anything at all without Fox News and Talk Radio? I think not.

I watched Oprah for the first time

I used the magic of the DVR to record and then watch the Oprah Winfrey show for the first time in my life. Regular readers no doubt have guessed that I was watching to see former governor Sarah Palin. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I was generally disappointed – not a serious question in the bunch. I don’t really care about the wardrobe, Bristol’s baby, or how the family dealt with a Down’s syndrome baby. I didn’t care about Oprah’s sanctimonious explanation as to why she didn’t have Palin on before, nor did I care to relive the Katie Couric interview. I really don’t care about that idiot Levi Johnson.

If I had the opportunity to ask Sarah Palin questions in front of a national audience I might have asked her something of substance:

Had you been elected Vice President how would you have tackled the rising unemployment problem in the United States?

Had you been elected Vice President how would you have recommended President McCain deal with a request for additional troops in Afghanistan?

Had you been elected Vice President how would you have dealt with the potential bankruptcies of Chrysler or General Motors?

Had you been elected Vice President how would you have addressed the rising cost and availability of Health Care in the Unites States?

Had you been elected Vice President how would you have recommended that President McCain deal with Iran and their nuclear program?

Of course I don’t think that Oprah was looking for substance, she was looking for ratings and who could deliver a larger audience than Sarah Palin? Further, Sarah would have sounded a damn sight more presidential than the current temporary occupant of the White House – and Oprah couldn’t have tolerated that. I think that is pretty unlikely that I will ever watch Oprah again.

Obama discovers that being President is hard

After declaring throughout his campaign that Afghanistan is the war that we had to fight and now 76 days after receiving a plan from the general he picked – Obama declares that he wants more options. More options?

Health Care might be Obama’s Waterloo, but Afghanistan will be the greatest contrast between President Obama and President Bush. Bush didn’t have any good options either, but he made a decision and we are the better for it and so is Iraq. Obama is about to learn an important lesson – there are no perfect plans and even if there were, the enemy always has a vote.

Presidents don’t get to vote “present” and not making a decision in a way is a decision. God help us.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS

Two Hundred Thirty Four years old and still kicking ass. I can’t begin to describe how proud I am of today’s Marines and their superior performance in the War on Terror.

See the Commandant’s Birthday Message at: http://www.marines.mil/usmc/Pages/2009MarineCorpsBirthdayBall.aspx

Please remember today that some Marines won’t be celebrating the Marine Corps Birthday at a fancy ball, but rather with his/her buddies in a fighting hole in a foreign country with an MRE pound cake and a swig of water from a warm canteen. God Bless them all.

Victory for Diversity

One of the more ridiculous assertions of the liberal left is that diversity is good, that somehow we become stronger through diversity. That is of course absurd. While no one can dispute the contributions of a variety of immigrants to the United States, to mindlessly assert that diversity in and of itself is good is preposterous. One has to look no further than the Fort Hood soldier and terrorist Major Nidal Malik Hasan.

This weekend General George Casey, the Nation’s top soldier said: “Speculation could potentially heighten backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers and what happened at Fort Hood was a tragedy, but I believe it would be an even greater tragedy if our diversity becomes a casualty here. It’s not just about Muslims, we have a very diverse army, we have very diverse society and that gives us all strength. But again we need to be very careful about that.”

What?!?! General Casey, diversity does not and has not made the army strong. What makes the army strong is people who subordinate themselves to the ethos, discipline, and goals of the United States and its army. To think that we can recruit people who do not love this country or who do not believe in the war we are fighting and then make excellent soldiers of them is beyond stupid.

Now the government and the army are scrambling to defend keeping an absurd figure in uniform until he lashed out and killed 12 Americans. Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano’s first response to the tragedy was to say: "We object to, and do not believe, that anti-Muslim sentiment should emanate from this," she said. "This was an individual who does not represent the Muslim faith."

What!?!?! These vicious barbarians came boiling up out of the desert in the seventh century and in short order had conquered a good portion of the known world. They were stopped at the Pyrenees Mountains after capturing nearly all of Spain and turned back at Vienna after capturing a substantial part of Eastern Europe. Does anyone hear a chorus of Imams decrying the violence of Hasan and other Muslim homicidal maniacs? No you don’t, but you do hear praise for Hasan’s actions from clerics. To keep insisting that the Koran is a road map for peace and understanding by Muslims of the Christian world ignores the actual words and intent of that book.

General Casey you need to get a spine and Secretary Napolitano you need to get a brain.

Health Care Abomination

The Honorable James Webb and Mark Warner,

The Health Care bill rocketing through the House of Representatives is an abomination. The Baucus bill in the Senate is equally as bad. If you have any doubts about abandoning this disastrous path, then I recommend that you look at the results of Virginia’s recent elections. There is a wave forming that will sweep away anyone on the Pelosi/Reid/Obama agenda. Candidate Obama ran as a moderate but President Obama seems bent on hard-core socialism. The American people will not stand for this and they are furious. You only had to look out of your office yesterday to know that.

You are old enough to remember the Carter Presidency (the last time democrats held the Whitehouse, the House of Representatives, and the Senate. Democrats ushered in the Reagan Revolution then and you and your colleagues are ushering the next Conservative Revolution now. Don’t be deceived that we haven’t named it yet, it might be the Palin Revolution or the Pawlenty Revolution, it doesn’t matter – it is coming. If you don’t want to get swept aside into irrelevance, you had better start working with your Republican colleagues - now. If you don’t, I pledge my very best effort to unseat you when the time comes.

Sincerely Yours,

Six hundred and twenty six

I am still basking in the positive results from Tuesday’s Virginia Statewide avalanche that buried our democrat foes. With that said, we had a local set-back in the Virginia House of Delegates race that did disappoint. After so many election cycles the failure of people to turn out to vote shouldn’t surprise me, but it still does. There are 2238 active voters on the rolls in my precinct, yet only 626 turned out to vote on Election Day. That is a hair under 28%. There were absentee ballots but they made up less than 4% of the total votes cast. That means that around 15% of the population determined the outcome of this election in Virginia. The news of the impending landslide might have suppressed voters from both sides from coming out – but it still seems unconscionable for 70% of the population to fail to come out and vote. In particular we are now saddled with a ACORN-like local movement who snuck a completely unsatisfactory candidate through to become our new delegate. These local elections are important to cull out bad politicians early. Though Republicans prevailed in Virginia by historic margins, we failed in Prince William County to keep a misfit out of the government.

VOTE Virginia VOTE

Tuesday 3 November we Virginians have the opportunity to send a message throughout the Nation. I don’t think that it is empty hyperbole to say that the World is watching to see if there is a spark of common sense and courage left in the United States. Virginia is the birthplace of the United States Constitution and of many of the most influential and important Founding Fathers. Together with the voters of New Jersey and the 23rd district of New York we must stagger this socialist administration with the strength of our response. It is not enough to just win, we must bury the opposition. Don’t forget to vote whatever you do.

Nothing is in the way now Mr. President

In an incredible act of incompetence and political faithlessness President Obama has failed to make a decision on General McChrystal’s request for more troops in Afghanistan for 64 days. Now the rationale for delaying such a decision has vanished with a little third world sleight of hand as Abdullah Abdullah has withdrawn from the very election that Obama wants to wait for. What the news isn’t trumpeting is that this is a typical response in infant democracies when a candidate knows he can’t win. In the twisted logic of the typical left-wing loser, refusing to run for office is supposed to delegitimize the election results. (Maybe Criegh Deeds should try this?). You see even when one million supposedly fraudulent votes were eliminated; President Hamid Karzai still beat Abdullah Abdullah 48% to 27%. Mr. Abdullah can’t win and he knows it. Of course all of this has been common knowledge in the Obama White House the entire time.

I’m no particular fan of Mr. Karzai, but he does appear to be the best of the available candidates and the Afghan people signified their agreement in the last election and would no doubt do so again in the next. Of course we know the real election that Obama is waiting for occurs this Tuesday – November 3rd.

It is yet another grand act of irony as Mr. Obama speaks about the legitimacy of an Afghan election with Al Franken sitting in a seat in the United States Senate and ACORN fraud explosions going off all around the Nation.
There is no impediment to a decision now Mr. President other than your political maneuvering to please the extreme left-wing of your party.

60 Days

The Honorable James Webb and Mark Warner,

It has now been sixty days (60) since General Stanley McChrystal presented our President with a plan to achieve success in Afghanistan. Don’t get sucked in by that drivel about the Afghani election – it doesn’t matter who is in charge in Kabul, Americans are still fighting and dying in Afghanistan. Stop the madness – support the troops. While any policy deserves review from time-to-time, when the Nation is at war, that should be a constant and on-going event so this request for a decision shouldn’t come as a surprise to an administration that is properly focused.

President Obama is responsible right now for American deaths that might have been averted were the Taliban and Al Qaeda to have been demoralized by a decisive response to that request. Each day the President delays a decision continues to give hope to our enemies that they can affect change in Afghanistan – is that what the President means by “hope and change?”

We expect you to use your influence to get the President’s attention. In the constitution the very first duty that is listed for the President is that of Commander-in-Chief – it is first for a reason. The constitution does not authorize or require the President to do most of what he is currently engaged in – you need to focus him. A good way to do that would be to refuse to work on any other White House legislation until he supports General McChrystal and the troops – the majority of Virginians don’t support the President’s legislative agenda anyway.

Sincerely,
W.A. Card
Dumfries, VA

Random Thoughts for Today

I got stuck in a place yesterday where CNN was on. I sat through an interview between Wolf Blitzer and Senator John Kerry. John Kerry is a still a traitor and a moron.

Why is Veterinarian medicine so affordable? Because there is no Federal Department of Veterinarian Medicine.

Teddy Kennedy got his second chip Sunday – he has been sober for two months now.

It has been 59 days now since General McChrystal provided his President with a plan – Americans are still fighting and dying in Afghanistan – there is still no decision.

How About an Answer Now

Dear President Obama,

General Stanley McChrystal provided you with a report that details his plan for victory on 30 August of this year. That is 58 days ago. I don’t think I should have to remind you that this is your general, fighting the war that you said was essential, executing your plan, that has been approved you your (our) allies in NATO. Let’s get the ridiculous out of the way first – it doesn’t matter what kind of government is the titular head of Afghanistan – we still have tens of thousands of American and allied troops fighting in Afghanistan – they deserve an answer now. We deserve an answer now. Fifty-eight days – imagine if you were over there at risk each and every day – what would you think about the guy who was waffling about making a decision?

I applauded your decision to reinforce Afghanistan in the infancy of your Presidency. You need to follow through now and support that decision. What you should learn from the Viet Nam experience is that incrementally increasing troop strength is wrong. A massive infusion of combat power into the theater will make a decisive difference as it did in Iraq. Even though you are an Iraq success denier, you should be able to see that.

Your job description is in Article II of the United States Constitution. Section 1 deals entirely with the election process. Section 2 begins the specific areas where you are authorized and directed to focus your efforts. The very first thing is your position as Commander-in-Chief. It is first for a reason – Commander-in-Chief was placed first intentionally by the Founding Fathers - because it is the most important. You will note that nowhere among your duties is it mentioned that you should save businesses, stimulate the economy, change the health care system, chase the Olympics, or discourage the use of fossil fuels.

Be a Commander-in-Chief and win the war in Afghanistan. Democrats always want to be in charge, they just don’t want to be responsible for the results – well you are responsible now Mr. President. The troops deserve your very best effort every moment of every day. Don’t get distracted by things that are not in your purview to address.

Best Regards,

Swine Flu Madness

In a recent History Channel special on Siberia one historian pointed out that Siberia under the Soviet Union didn’t suffer from “under development, but wrongful development.” In other words, development directed by government rather than market forces was nearly always wrong. For example, nationalizing the auto and health industries makes good sense to a socialist ideologue; it doesn’t work in a free market economy. Now the Obama administration is called upon to respond to H1N1 or the Swine Flu. How are they doing?

This week it was reported that we the people had been promised 120 million doses of the vaccine by this time – 13 million have been distributed. While the production of vaccines is a laborious process – does anyone ever remember having this kind of crisis before? You see when one’s principle qualifications for a government appointment are a socialist ideology and a lack of practical experience in a discipline related to your new job – getting things done might be a problem.

Following in the footsteps of famous disasters like the cash for clunkers program, the flu season is about to make fools of the Obama administration. While the pesky little virus does bear some responsibility, the government’s heavy handed effort to seem relevant to the American public is the real villain. The Obama administration is using their time-tested emergency announcement now applied to what is turning out to be a slightly above average flu season. The season would have been nearly normal except for the fact that this rookie batch of socialists has scared the crap out of everyone. How are they going to deal with the fallout now that their mismanagement of the phony crisis is projected to result in 61% of us being exposed to the H1N1 virus before we get access to the vaccine?

They seized on swine flu because it is another path to power. Heil Obama, mmm, mmm, mmm.
