Patriotism

Walking neighborhoods for a Republican candidate is an interesting experience.  I have noted before that the presence of an American flag proudly displayed on a home nearly guarantees a friendly reception at the door.

Today’s The Washington Times had an editorial by Matt Barber titled “Pride” vs. Patriotism” with some interesting observations about our fellow Americans.  He refers to a Harvard study that seemed to confirm that patriotic events stimulate Republican values:

“This, of course, begs the question: If Fourth of July parades churn out little GOPers and embody the values of conservatism, what style of parade might spawn the young Democrat? What event best represents liberalism?  Put another way: In the ongoing war for our culture, if Old Glory is the banner behind which conservatives do battle, what pennon do you suppose guides the proud left into combat?”

Indeed.  I might have to keep mental note of whether I get the chilliest reception at doors with “Welcome” mats and pineapple flags or Redskins paraphernalia and “Go Hookies” bumper stickers.

Another example of patriotism from today’s “Patriot Post” on top Sarah Palin’s bus and underneath the one that we bought for President Barack Hussein Obama.  Who exemplifies America more?  I’ll let you draw your own conclusion.

  1. Who paid for Palin's bus? Was it that dastardly capitalism?

I think the kind of parade that motivates libs would be a gay pride parade.

  3. I don't think it's any kind of parade that creates future liberals.

I'm guessing that liberals are created during a person's teen years when they're trying to outgrow their parent's authority and rebel against it while at the same time still require the free room and board, free food, clothing, heat, electricity, education, medical care and, spending money.

Some folks outgrow the neediness and, have a desire to shake off their parent's strings and rules and, become independent adults while others, never really outgrow their need of being dependent on their parents to care for them.

Those who don't overcome dependence, look to the government to provide it in lieu of mommy and daddy after mommy and daddy cut them off. (or, they become those 40 year olds who still live in the basement).
Take a look at any liberal program. They're all designed to replace the parents with the government.

    That's just my theory.
It isn't a parade or, event that creates liberals, it's just that they've never shaken off their teen years.

  4. 10th, -Sepp, and J.O.B.,

What ever the cause, I wish we could find the antidote - things are getting pretty damn stupid around here.
