The Apocalypse is Here and it is Us

We seem to have a problem with various groups pushing every argument to the lunatic extreme lately.  This has got to stop and people have got to call politicians and each other on it.

Example:  When Governor Rick Perry was toying with the idea of running for President someone sent me an e-mail with the subject line:  “ILLEGAL HIGHWY TO KANSAS!”  The allegation was that the Trans-Texas Corridor, which Governor Perry supported, was going to main-line illegal aliens right into the American Heartland.  The assertion was absurd, had nothing to do with the actual facts about the project, and was the product of some hysterical nut-job.

A friend called me recently to say that the problem with the Trans-Texas Corridor project had more to do with the nature of public-private partnerships – and I can buy that.  However the Governor of Texas isn’t now nor has he ever been engaged in a plan to increase, facilitate, or smooth the flow of illegal aliens into Kansas (or anyplace else).

I often think that you should delete any e-mail with an exclamation point in the subject line. "Cialis for FREE!" or "Snooki's stock picks beat the pros by 500%!" or "Free IPAD2!" or "Rick Perry's Dog has three heads!"

Next example:  This appeared in the blogosphere (again note the exclamation point) “Oh-No! Will Governor Perry be the Pro-Sharia Candidate?”  Are you freaking kidding me?  That doesn’t even pass the giggle test.

Next Example:  A normally responsible and well visited blog posted “Rick Perry’s NAFTA Super Highway Problem.”  No matter how hard you try, you can’t hang NAFTA on the Governor of Texas.  The article was about everything except Governor Perry.

I think that before we forward or post anything – we should all agree to a “Two-Click Rule.”  If you can prove to yourself that something is BS in two Google searches or less – you should not give that e-mail, blog post, or article legs by pushing it around.

Governor Perry might not be the real deal (I'm pretty sure he is) – but a guy who has been in the public eye for this long probably doesn’t have an alien spaceship landing pad in his backyard or a love child with the Queen of England.

  1. Hi Common Snse... if Perry is all that and more, he'll make it through the sniff tests... people are going to vet a potus candidate this time around, aren't they?!

I can think of someone who has been completely 1000% vetted already and passes with flying colors... but she hasn't officially declared yet

    there is time

    I'll wait

  2. Lisa,

Thanks for the visit. Yes she has been vetted.

My point is that we can and should head off the foolish stuff. We bloggers shouldn't perpetuate stuff that isn't true.

It wasn't aimed at you - I've been to a number of sites - everything from the "mandatory" Gardasil that was optional and never implemented - to the Trans-Texas corridor that was actually a pretty good idea.

  3. Let's assemble a circular firing squad. Republicans do it all the time.

The truth is that no politician with a history has not shit the bed on occasion.

Our candidates need to beat on zero since he now has a history and provide a plan forward. beating on each other is counter-productive and plays into the left's plans.

We need the best candidate to beat zero.

PS. Lisa, I wouldn't take that stuff from CS. He really was picking on you. :)

  4. I'd like it if in the next debate, the candidates would agree with each other and just dog Obiewan de Kenya.

  5. H-Nox,

I would be happy if people would just deal with the issues instead of inventing non-existent problems to hang on what appears to be a pretty good guy.

This Muslim thing is bordering on insanity.

  6. CS,
My thoughts exactly. The world is imploding and the circular firing squad is focused on business deals with Muslims that just so happen to live in the USA.

OK, if business with Muslims is always a bad thing then let's stop selling arms to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and others; and while we are at it let's stop importing all that Muslim oil. That'll show them.

As a matter of fact, let's just pack them all up and ship them out.

    For crying out loud...

On second thought who's going to run the 7-Eleven stores?

Seriously, the whole deal was about bringing in investment to create industry and jobs in Texas. End of story. Next.

  7. Here we go again me having so much trouble getting onto blogspot.

I agree that this is getting ridiculous and out of hand about the candidates. I don't know how many I see that are bogus.

Garnet on Wordprss has done a well researched an in depth article on Perry. A lot of the misconceptions have been dispelled on him.

I'm with you, discount the blogger unless it can be verified.

  8. Thanks for the support Pepperhawk. It might keep us from forming that "circular firing squad" that Hardnox referred to.
