Let's Ask Some Pointed Questions

Dear Editor,

In all the discussion about “lowering the volume” we are missing that our Nation is locked in a struggle with the left for the very heart and soul of our Nation.   The knee-jerk hate speech of the “left” and the counter-punching from the “right” prevented a substantive evaluation of what went wrong in the life of Jared Loughner and his community.  We need to ask ourselves some serious questions:

Has the mindless suppression of religion contributed to an environment where Jared couldn’t find peace?

Did political correctness stop people or institutions from labeling Jared a lunatic and prevent him from being forced to seek help?

Is a person like Jared able to function in an “anything goes” environment with violent images in games, music, movies, and the like?

Exactly who were Jared’s heroes?  If they were Karl Marx and Adolf Hitler as might be surmised by his reading list that might tell us something.

We have been sliding off the moral high ground that our Founding Fathers established for decades.  Our institutions and particularly religious institutions are under constant assault.  The people’s contract with their government, the US Constitution has been smeared, attacked, and ignored.  Our courts are full of judges who are hell bent to force-feed every nutty liberal idea, program, and new “right” down our collective throats.  Increasingly the left is winning and accomplishing the dreams of the radical left.

I talked about this with my 81 year old mother.  I don’t recall as I grew up reading about massacres in shopping centers or serial killers, and the like.  But I do recall the gradual liberalization of society and its expectations.  The National discourse should examine whether or not that is to blame.

That discourse may come down to whether it’s better to have a Nation governed by the principles of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, and Laura Ingraham or the likes of Alan Colmes, Keith Olbermann, Ed Schultz, and Al Franken.  As we have seen over and over again, one makes for a better country and one is a clear loser.
