Labor Day Exclusion

The “Big Tent” people have struck again as the Marathon County (Wisconsin) Labor Council (AFL-CIO) of Wausau will not allow Republicans to participate in the Labor Day Parade this year.  It does beg the question however, why are labor leaders allowed to participate in Labor Day events?  In my experience unions generally aren’t about “labor” but rather time off, feather bedding, and putting up any number of road blocks to prevent members from doing productive work.

We on the Right should retaliate.  Why should we allow Democrats (Socialists, Progressives, Liberals, whatever) to march in or participate in 4th of July Parades?  The 4th of July celebrates the Declaration of Independence and Democrats don’t believe in either the sprit or the letter of that document.  And don’t even mention the Constitution – they hate that.  We should have Liberal unique holidays instead.  While the rest of us are exhibiting our love of country on July 4th, liberals could celebrate “I don’t give a S**t about anyone but me day” on the 5th.  We could call it “Me Day” for short.

Veterans Day originated as a celebration of the end of World War I but has morphed into a celebration of all veterans of all our various wars (even the Libyan Kinetic Operation I suppose).  It is a bit messy for liberals as it celebrates sacrifice, patriotism, and military service (concepts foreign to most liberals).  Therefore I propose that they celebrate “Prostrate for Peace Day” and they can all practice bowing to foreign dictators, kings, sheiks, and other fascists.

Thanksgiving Day is also difficult for your typical leftist theophobe as it links not only to a Republican President (Abraham Lincoln) but also has deep Christian undertones.  Personally I think that liberals should take one for the team and work that holiday so that the rest of us can enjoy the day without their oppressive and simpering presence.  I suggest that they pick a different weekend in November and celebrate “I hate God and Republicans Day.”  We already know that’s the way they feel – why not be honest about it?

Memorial Day is another holiday focused on military sacrifice and uncomfortable for liberals in general.  Real Americans celebrate Memorial Day by visiting military cemeteries or memorials.  We don’t need to make a separate holiday for leftists, but rather they should stay at home and watch MSLSD (The Best of Chris Matthews specials).

I was thinking that we should have a “Homosexuals Day” but we already have two cities that celebrate that 365 days a year – Seattle and San Francisco.  So doing it nationally would be over-kill.

The Left is Coming Unhinged

Remember the stony and comatose Al Gore (Watermelon - TN) from the old days?  No more – now if you don’t believe in his Global Warming hoax – you’re as bad as Democrat Sherriff Bull Connor – in other words – you’re a racist.  Hell – you’re as bad as Al’s father Senator Albert Gore Senior (Democrat – TN) who voted against Civil Rights.  I do wonder if Al ever had that talk with dad about being “gross and evil.”  The last card unscrupulous liberals have to play is the “race card.”

You may recall his rant from the other day about us global warming deniers (Rated PG-13):

You have to feel bad for old Al Gore – he came so close so many times.  He could have been president had Democrats (Socialists, Progressives, Liberals, whatever) voted to convict Bawdy Bill Clinton of perjury.  Clinton was guilty - but Democrats have no honor – so Al had to continue playing second fiddle and attending funerals.

Then he came so close to being elected – he could smell it.  All they had to do was recount votes until Florida flipped – you know, sneak in a few votes here, a few there, hell Democrats do it all the time.  But the Constitution and the Supreme Court stood in his way.  He was REALLY pissed about that.

More indignity as Global Warming has been blown away.  His scam to break the backs of businesses, turn a useless by-product into gold (carbon exhaust), and profit handsomely by inventing an industry no one needs – came to a standstill.  They even had Mr. Charisma (Obama) head over to the final showdown on Copenhagen.  Their hope was that even though America wasn’t buying that crap any more, they could win internationally with the United Nations.  Of course Obama he fell right on his face.

Even Tipper left him.  She must have finally come to the same conclusion about Al as the rest of us.  Game over Al – take your useless Oscar and go home.  We all know that what you’ve been hawking for all this time is bulls**t.

Stay on Vacation; We don’t want you back

The news reported today that President Barack Obama is cutting his vacation short by a few hours to rush back to Washington, DC.  Why exactly would he do that?

14,000,000 unemployed Americans didn’t keep him from going on vacation.

The rare, though hardly catastrophic 5.9 earthquake didn’t bring him back.

417,000 new Americans filing unemployment claims didn’t bring him back.

Now with big, bad hurricane Irene huffing and puffing what exactly does he think he is going to add by coming back?

I like Dennis Miller’s view that we’re better off with Obama on vacation because it beats his normal mode of being “out-to-lunch.”

Maybe he is afraid to fly now that we don’t know where 20,000 man portable, heat-seeking, anti-aircraft missiles are that the Soviet Union provided to Qaddafi.  Maybe Obama is going to try and help find Qaddafi.

I think that we would be better served if he wrapped his head around Stephen Moore’s column in the Wall Street Journal “Obamanomics vs. Reaganomics” which said in part:

“By the end of the summer of Reagan's third year in office, the economy was soaring. The GDP growth rate was 5% and racing toward 7%, even 8% growth. In 1983 and '84 output was growing so fast the biggest worry was that the economy would "overheat." In the summer of 2011 we have an economy limping along at barely 1% growth and by some indications headed toward a "double-dip" recession. By the end of Reagan's first term, it was Morning in America. Today there is gloomy talk of America in its twilight.”

Indeed that is what is so maddening about what Obama and the Democrats (Progressives, Liberals, Socialists, whatever) have done to this country.  We know what works.  We know what doesn’t work.

We don’t need a “balanced solution” as all the liberal talking heads are crowing about.  Any “progressive” (liberal, socialist, leftist) element that is placed in a package of tax cuts, deregulation, and spending reductions will weaken the effects of that package and extend the current crisis.

We don’t need a “new” solution or a “grand bargain” – just dust off Reagan’s plan and implement it with one caveat – CUT SPENDING.  Do that and this economy will be running like a top in no time.

The Earthquake

I spent much of my youth in California and was stationed there for three years as a Marine.  I remember earthquakes from that time.  I don’t recall ever feeling an earthquake in Virginia or North Carolina (where I have now spent more than half my life).  That changed on Tuesday.  Now we are expected to get a fairly substantial portion of hurricane Irene.

I suppose that God doesn’t think that Obama hasn't been bad enough that we need these natural disasters as well.   If we start getting locusts, boils, and frogs then it’s really time for Pharaoh Obama and Queen Michelle to go.

I do have to thank my bride though.  Her fear of aftershocks lead her to take things off some shelves to avoid further damage:

That’s three of my antique beer steins nestled in the thick pile of our oriental carpet.  You gotta love of girl like that.

Just Stop Being Stupid

I think that Doctor Milton R. Wolf is fast becoming one of my favorite columnists.  I have been writing for some time about the shear stupidity of subsidizing the production of bad gas (Ethanol) by using food.  Today in The Washington Times Wolf writes in “Energy Obamanomics: No green jobs and plenty of red ink” about what will be Obama’s legacy as we go to the polls in 2012:

“The president tried to sock it to the poor man with his “cap and trade” energy, plan under which, in his words, “rates would necessarily skyrocket.” The Obama energy policy started with, again in the president’s own words, putting a “boot on the neck” of America’s oil suppliers. Since he effectively imposed a moratorium on drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, which resulted in the administration’s being found in contempt of court, 10 oil rigs have left the Gulf and are providing affordable energy and jobs for South America, Africa and the Middle East. Meanwhile, gasoline prices have doubled since Mr. Obama took office. The court didn’t go far enough. This White House is in contempt, not just of court, but of the American people themselves.”

What is incredible now is that we can save huge amounts of money, cut the cost of gas, reduce the price on most foodstuffs, and increase revenue to the government by ending all this ridiculous alternate fuel funding, protection, and coercion.  Just stop being stupid.

Patriotism

Walking neighborhoods for a Republican candidate is an interesting experience.  I have noted before that the presence of an American flag proudly displayed on a home nearly guarantees a friendly reception at the door.

Today’s The Washington Times had an editorial by Matt Barber titled “Pride” vs. Patriotism” with some interesting observations about our fellow Americans.  He refers to a Harvard study that seemed to confirm that patriotic events stimulate Republican values:

“This, of course, begs the question: If Fourth of July parades churn out little GOPers and embody the values of conservatism, what style of parade might spawn the young Democrat? What event best represents liberalism?  Put another way: In the ongoing war for our culture, if Old Glory is the banner behind which conservatives do battle, what pennon do you suppose guides the proud left into combat?”

Indeed.  I might have to keep mental note of whether I get the chilliest reception at doors with “Welcome” mats and pineapple flags or Redskins paraphernalia and “Go Hookies” bumper stickers.

Another example of patriotism from today’s “Patriot Post” on top Sarah Palin’s bus and underneath the one that we bought for President Barack Hussein Obama.  Who exemplifies America more?  I’ll let you draw your own conclusion.

Hysteria 101

I was at the Republican booth at the County Fair when a man and woman dressed in County emergency medical technician uniforms walked up to our table.  The man stabbed a finger at one of the brochures on the table and said loudly “I’m not voting for him because he wants to take my retirement away!”  That’s lesson Number 1 apparently at the union hall – use apocalyptic language.

It was an amazing conversation.  Our County is faced with the same problem that the Federal, State, and local governments are facing all over the country.  Public salaries, benefits, and particularly retirement packages have exploded such that they are breaking the back of budgets everywhere.  Modest reforms have lead in part to the disgraceful response by union members in Wisconsin and other locales.  It is ironic to stand in front of someone who might charge into my home to restart my heart (or not) but would strangle my family’s financial security for his future security in retirement.

No one has made any move to “take his retirement away” yet he will probably knuckle under and vote for a candidate who promises something that our County simply can’t deliver.  He was standing in front of people who are being forced to figure out how they will augment or even replace government benefits in the future.  Yet he was adamant that no one could alter the way his benefits were determined.  He also wouldn’t back off the severe language.  His partner quipped that she was to retire in three years (no doubt decades ahead of her peers in private business) and she was going to defend her “rights.”

These people are a veritable fifth column within our local government who are paid by the residents but are resisting all efforts to create fiscal solvency in our County.  It wasn’t hard to envision these two selfish and well paid employees (who theoretically work for me) occupying our County Courthouse, waving signs, yelling at our conservative County Board of Supervisors, and bankrupting the County.  This is typical of liberal (Democrat, socialist, progressive, whatever) rhetoric – “we” all have to sacrifice, you first.

Gene Simmons predicts Perry victory in 2012

The Washington Times reported today that KISS rocker Gene Simmons in two Tweets predicted that Governor Rick Perry would win the 2012 election and be our next President

Before you laugh - Simmons reports that he has an uncanny record in selecting presidents in the past.  I had been pretty sure that Governor Rick Perry was our guy - this kind of seals it.

The Apocalypse is Here and it is Us

We seem to have a problem with various groups pushing every argument to the lunatic extreme lately.  This has got to stop and people have got to call politicians and each other on it.

Example:  When Governor Rick Perry was toying with the idea of running for President someone sent me an e-mail with the subject line:  “ILLEGAL HIGHWY TO KANSAS!”  The allegation was that the Trans-Texas Corridor, which Governor Perry supported, was going to main-line illegal aliens right into the American Heartland.  The assertion was absurd, had nothing to do with the actual facts about the project, and was the product of some hysterical nut-job.

A friend called me recently to say that the problem with the Trans-Texas Corridor project had more to do with the nature of public-private partnerships – and I can buy that.  However the Governor of Texas isn’t now nor has he ever been engaged in a plan to increase, facilitate, or smooth the flow of illegal aliens into Kansas (or anyplace else).

I often think that you should delete any e-mail with an exclamation point in the subject line. "Cialis for FREE!" or "Snooki's stock picks beat the pros by 500%!" or "Free IPAD2!" or "Rick Perry's Dog has three heads!"

Next example:  This appeared in the blogosphere (again note the exclamation point) “Oh-No! Will Governor Perry be the Pro-Sharia Candidate?”  Are you freaking kidding me?  That doesn’t even pass the giggle test.

Next Example:  A normally responsible and well visited blog posted “Rick Perry’s NAFTA Super Highway Problem.”  No matter how hard you try, you can’t hang NAFTA on the Governor of Texas.  The article was about everything except Governor Perry.

I think that before we forward or post anything – we should all agree to a “Two-Click Rule.”  If you can prove to yourself that something is BS in two Google searches or less – you should not give that e-mail, blog post, or article legs by pushing it around.

Governor Perry might not be the real deal (I'm pretty sure he is) – but a guy who has been in the public eye for this long probably doesn’t have an alien spaceship landing pad in his backyard or a love child with the Queen of England.

It Ain’t a Self-Licking Ice Cream Cone

Benjamin Franklin (the second most important Founding Father) was asked by a fellow American after the Constitutional Convention what kind of government he and the others had designed.  He replied “A Republic is you can keep it.”

What does “keeping it” entail exactly?

I believe that it means that we all, each and every one of us, have to invest something to maintain this Republic.  Unfortunately we are surrounded and infiltrated by enemies of the American Republic.  That means that all of us have to do more than simply vote.  While we are all possessed of different talents and capabilities, I think that we all have to leverage some of our strength, time, and treasure to “support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.”

Think about it – if you don’t walk your neighborhood – don’t worry about it, Moveon.org will pay someone to do it for you.  You won’t like the result, but they are already out there.

Like it or not, we have fallen into an electoral system that is dependent on political parties.  Our Founding Fathers had experience with the chaos of parliamentary politics and while some of that flavor leaked into our Republic it was overwhelmingly rejected.  Some Founders rejected parties (most notably George Washington and John Adams) but it became the framework on which our elections and to a degree governing is based.

Sitting in our local GOP headquarters frequently prospective political quarterbacks swung through to tell me how the GOP should be operating, advertising, or politicking.  I never argued with them, I just smiled and said, “We make phone calls, walk neighborhoods, and collect donations from here.  I would be happy to put you on a phone, give you a walk sheet, or the donation box is there.”  Usually they were offering all possible assistance short of actual help.  Winning elections by letting someone else do the work has got to stop.

The truth of the matter is that Candidate Obama mobilized a passionate minority of the population.  That minority got out to walk, donate, call, and vote in sufficient numbers to overwhelm the majority of Americans who split their vote between staying home or voting for McCain.    McCain and Obama split the 63% of Americans who came out to vote – my math is probably a little rough here but that means that 37% of the electorate voted against America by sitting that one out.

The sad truth is that in 2012 sixty percent or so of the American electorate will determine whether or not President Barack Obama will continue to ravage our Nation.  If you love America you are going to have to get up off your ass and help save it.

Governor Rick Perry’s Timing

Much has been made of the timing of Governor Rick Perry announcing his candidacy for President on Saturday.  I wasn’t aware of any Marquis de Queensbury rule that he broke.  I can tell you I was so captivated by the drama in Iowa that I was out walking a neighborhood for a State Senate candidate.

A rain storm interrupted my door knocking and when I got into my truck former Speaker Newt Gingrich was speaking in Iowa on C-SPAN.  He was doing very well and had some superb recommendations for this Congress – I hope Speaker Boehner and Leader Cantor were listening.  However his speech was interrupted by an announcement assuring C-SPAN listeners like me that we could rest assured that no matter who was speaking, they would interrupt to carry Governor Perry’s remarks.  I guess they were as interested as everyone else.

I got home in time to catch some of Herman Cain’s speech on Fox News.  I love the part where he acknowledges the criticism of his lack of foreign policy experience and then remarks “ . . and the guy we have there now has experience?”  It’s about 5 minutes in – you owe it to yourself to at least listen to that.

Fox cut from time-to-time to South Carolina where nameless people were fussing with the podium in preparation for the news that we were all waiting for.

Sixteen thousand Iowans were gathered in an important, but as it turns out largely irrelevant contest.  Ron Paul was running for President for the third time – now there’s a news scoop.  I love the fact that Michelle Bachmann won (Paul would REALLY be insufferable had he won) and I love the fact that Governor Perry’s write-in votes beat Governor Mitt Romney (who was on the ballot).  But the real news that a majority of Americans were waiting for was going to happen in South Carolina.  You can bet President Obama took time from his vacation or campaign to watch.

Now the real fight is on.  A Texas-based blogger has done a truly masterful job in researching “ . . . the seventeen (17) things that  critics are saying about Rick Perry.”  It’s a great and evenhanded read.  He has also written a Pro-Perry piece at Pesky Truth titled “Why Rick Perry should be out next President.”

It’s time to get serious friends and get behind a serious candidate.

Knocking Doors

Virginia is having an election this year.  Walking neighborhoods and knocking on doors is very different than it has been in the past.  In 2010 people were pissed.  In 2011 people are furious.  One local politician pointed out that since we live in Northern Virginia and our “local” paper is The Washington Post – we can’t escape National politics.  I’ve been doing this for a few years now and I’ve never seen anything like it.

I think that this bodes well for 2012.  We need to pour it on though.  Get behind those Republicans now.  Remember a Republican might only make you happy 85% of the time – but a Democrat will never make you happy.

The best news – it looks like Governor Rick Perry is indeed coming to the rescue.

Please give me a President who Prays

I hear the hue and cry of the Left (Socialists, Liberals, Progressives, Democrats, whatever) over the audacity of the Governor of Texas not only attending, but leading a prayer service called “The Response.”  Burdened as I am with a love of our history, I recalled an episode where one of the Founding Fathers who popular mythology brands as non-religious, stood up and his faith changed the direction of a country if not the world.

In her book "Miracle at Philadelphia; The Story of the Constitutional Convention May to September 1787" Catherine Drinker Bowen tells the story of a deadlocked Constitution Convention.  The delegates had come to loggerheads over how the various States would be represented.  Big States of course didn't want to come under the sway of the smaller ones while the small States didn't want to be overwhelmed by the larger ones.  Chaos had reigned for several weeks until Benjamin Franklin who had not spoken much at the Constitutional Convention stood up and addressed these remarks to the President of the Convention George Washington:

"In this situation of this Assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened, Sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of Lights to illuminate our understandings?"

Bowen explains: Franklin here reminded the Convention how at the beginning of the war with England, the Continental Congress had had prayers for divine protection - and in this very room, "Our prayers, Sir, were heard," said Franklin, "and they were graciously answered.  All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a Super-intending providence in our favor.  To that kind providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity.  And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? . . . . I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth - that God governs in the affairs of man."

If a sparrow cannot fall to the ground unseen by him, Franklin continued, was it probable an empire could rise without his aid?  "I firmly believe this, and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel.  We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word to future ages.  And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance despair of establishing governments of human wisdom and leave it to chance, war, and conquest."

"I therefore beg leave to move that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of heaven and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the clergy of this city be requested to officiate in that service."

A delegate from Georgia - William Few, described that morning of June twenty-eighth as "an awful and critical moment.  If the Convention had then adjourned, the dissolution of the union of the states seemed inevitable."

The motion by Franklin was defeated largely because there were no funds to pay clergy, however ministers did attend to the convention at no cost.  Jonathan Dayton (NJ) recorded that after the renewed focus on God “We assembled again; and . . . every unfriendly feeling had been expelled, and a spirit of conciliation had been cultivated.”

A motion by Edmund Jennings Randolph (VA) for the entire group to attend a special day of prayer on July 4th was passed.  In his book “The Myth of Separation” David Barton reports:

“. . . the entire Convention assembled in the Reformed Calvinistic Church and heard a sermon by Rev. William Rogers.”

The newly found sense of cooperation resulted in “The Great Compromise” our bicameral legislature consisting of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

In our current on-going disaster they have tried everything else – surely prayer couldn’t hurt.

Is it any wonder then that Governor Rick Perry thought that our Nation could benefit from prayer?

I know who I’m voting for in 2012.
